I started writing and performing in my early 40s in 2019.
And I started with a bold move.
I decided to write, produce and perform a one woman show at the Greater Manchester Fringe
Whilst working out how to write, put on and perform that show I met some 'proper' writers and performers who suggested a bit of performance practice 'might be a good idea' before doing a full show.
This advice led me to the amazing spoken word scene of Manchester and the North West, which in turn has led to me finding my writing voice and confidence to share my work on social media, submit my poetry to anthologies, zines, podcasts, and even the BBC.
I now run poetry workshops for schools, charities, community groups and businesses, including for Water Aid at Worthy Pastures in 2021 and at Boardmasters Festival in 2022. I also create bespoke commissioned work, including voiceovers.
'Do you remember the first rhyme?', a show about rediscovering my creativity, debuted at the Greater Manchester Fringe in 2022 to a 4 star review, a Saboteur Award shortlisting, and it will be back in 2023 at my dream festival : EDINBURGH FRINGE !!
